Standing at 2115 meters above sea level Mt Taranaki (or Mt Egmont as it was formerly known) is a dormant volcano.
There are numerous walking tracks around the perimeter through National Park native bush and for those that venture to the summit on a day trip, the views of the entire region are quite spectacular.
